Online MLM Secrets – The Good
Duplication is the holy grail of Multi-Level Marketing (MLM), and it is also THE biggest mystery of the whole industry as well. In every company’s sales pitch we hear the concept of the penny doubling everyday, or simply, the power of compound interest and exponential growth.
HOWEVER, why is that “perfect duplication” rarely happens?
Yeah, we’ve seen a few superstars in every company that seem to be able to just magically command a large army people to sign on the dotted line and join their team… but what about us? What about the little people? Why can’t do the same thing that these top leaders are able to do?
The honest truth is that to be able to get others involved with our business, we MUST first learn and become an attractive person to work with in business and in life. And most of the leaders you see on stage being recognized for high ranks have gone through various levels of personal development to become successful.

Besides personal growth, the fact that we are dealing with humans, and humans are complicated and fickle, “perfect duplication” therefore is impossible to accomplish.
With that being said, there is an art and science to getting as many of your teammates to duplicate as possible, and it is becoming easier and easier to do so through various online MLM tools and programs.
There is no doubt that belly-to-belly offline MLM strategies are very effective because face-to-face communication is the fastest way to earn someone’s trust. And as effective as offline communication is to earning a prospect’s trust and getting that person involved in business with us… the biggest of all online MLM secrets is efficiency .. the ability to reach a HUGE number of people at the push of a button.
When I first learned about this I was very excited, and after I actually took action and started generating traffic, leads and sales myself, I could not believe my eyes!
We’ll go through some specifics in the later part of this post, but let me share some of the biggest and deadliest landmines to avoid at all cost when ti comes to online MLM marketing.
Online MLM Secrets – The Bad
1. I first learned to market online in 2007, and at that time I already had a little bit of results to show for in the offline MLM space, having personally sponsored around 30 people in 3 years which grew to a team of 100 some team mates and consistently making $2,500 – $4,000 a month. At that time, my experience in MLM is limited to offline, face-to-face marketing only and had no idea what it meant to buy leads or generate leads online.
In short, I was most completely ignorant about online marketing as a business owner. Period.
On top of that, there were very few affordable tools available in the MLM industry for those of us that wanted to generate leads and business online. We had to either pay someone to customize a lead capture page for us or write our own. One my first lead capture pages is super ugly as you can see to the left…
I’ve paid for various services that cost from $49/month to $297/month to do this simple task, and the truth is some of the services were way overpriced. The reason I paid for it was because I wanted to be successful at this and I was willing to pay it. Some of these tools providers knew that we networkers were a committed, fired-up bunch, so they just charged whatever they wanted for it.
All in all, I’ve literally invested over $50,000 into online marketing education over the past few years, and while I’ve made all that money back and many times over, you need to know that
The best tool is the one you actually use! Higher-priced tools are not always better. I’ve gone through many tools and services to find one that is reasonably priced and offers my teammates the best chance to duplicate. 2. Another one of the most critical online MLM secrets to keep in mind, especially when you’re a newbie, is that there are more moving parts in online marketing than offline marketing… therefore, making it SEEM like it’s harder to duplicate. This is when you must prepare yourself and start getting organized in your business and really treat it like a business, and show some tough love to your teammates and tell them this exact point over and over.
Online MLM Secrets – The Ugly
Because the Internet is such a large and free platform to share ideas, there are lots of ugly potholes that can cripple your from moving forward! The ugliest of which are:
1. Watch out for the pretenders! And there is a truck load of them!
Over the years, I’ve seen so many people who have never accomplished anything in the industry nor learned to provide value to their prospects go online and start spamming the Internet. Most of these people usually just want to make a quick buck. They take your money and they disappear. They sponsor you into a program, and then you never hear from them again.
The same thing happens in offline MLM as well, and that is what gives our industry a bad name. Avoid this at all cost. And most importantly, avoid being part of the problem by being a stand-up person and leader.
2. Information overload
This is a a tricky one and absolutely confusing and sometimes devastating. Online marketing is an ever-changing field with new tools and technologies to make life easier for the users, and it also poses the challenge of new and steep learning curves every so often. Information overload and literally paralyze someone from taking ANY action.
[hint #2: Stick to what works 95% of the time. Keep an eye out for new trends 5% of the time. WORK WITH A TEAM SO YOU ARE NOT DOING IT ALONE!]
3. MIS-INFORMATION
Another thing is that you will hear some online MLM trainers and gurus say things like “old school is dead,” “going after family and friends is stupid,” “don’t ever do 3-way calls,” “hotel meetings never work,” blah blah blah.
Do NOT for a second take those statements as truths.
What works for one person doesn’t always work for the other, and yet it does not mean that it is not a viable strategy.
You can see from the banner of this blog that I’m friends with quite a few “gurus,” and today, many of them are hosting HUGE hotel meetings and events to rally their teams and getting new people in. Does that make them smart marketers or simply mis-leaders?
Well, you make that judgement call yourself.
Just remember marketing is about picking an angle, a specific audience and delivering a message to that audience.
Online MLM Secrets - Bottom line, Real Shortcuts To Success
My very first online MLM marketing campaign generated a list of around 20,000 subscribers and 2,134 of them became paying customers and teammates in my MLM over a period of 19 months and brought in roughly $460,000 of sales.
In the first 3 months of setting up and tweaking that campaign, I was working almost 30 hours a week IN ADDITION TO my 45-hour a week aerospace engineering job and 25-30 hours a week I dedicated to my offline MLM activities.
